施工是一次跟工人学习、参与体验、各方沟通的过程，它让我们重新审视自己的设计，抱怨、困惑、愉快、激动交织。我们目睹了建筑由图纸变成物质的经过，当她还只是个钢架子时，就任性把它推到海边体验，她的重力在可移动性与安稳的身心感受之间获得平衡，简单的框架，限定了一个小世界，隐约中，具有某种超越视觉的力量。
Construction is a process that allows us to learn from the builders, get some experience and communicate with all parties involved. It enables us to reexamine the work with a mix of complaint, confusion, joy and excitement. We have borne witness to the whole process of turning the structure once in the drawings into a reality. When it was still a steel framework, we pushed it to the seaside for experience. It shows a high level of mobility and steadiness. The simple framework defines a little world with some kind of invisible power.

对工艺的预判和对“开辟”本身空间特性的理解使我们最终选择了用完成面包裹支撑骨架的建造方式。尽管我们回避了本应清晰处理的交接问题，但是我们得以将主要精力放在对于完成面本身的处理上：空间界面由内层（木板）和外层（铝板）定义，与人身体亲近程度截然不同的两种材料界定了狭小的半个坡屋顶中原本并不稳定的内外空间；同时，内层的木板以小尺寸密缝拼接，而外层的铝板则以大尺寸圆缝拼接，两者在空间和形体的内外转折之处以铝板折边交接在一起，最终完成“开辟”的建造。
The choice of wrapping up the steel framework with wooden and aluminum surfaces is based on our prediction of local craftsmanship and understanding of the space within the installation. We pay much more attention to finished surfaces than fabrication of materials. The interior is defined by wooden planks and the exterior by aluminum sheets. These two distinct materials cut into different sizes that give us diverse sensations stabilize both the exterior and interior spaces, joint with each other where the surfaces meet by aluminum folding.

对“开辟”的每一次使用都是使用者和这个小空间的一次互动：所有既定或者偶发的使用都需要从原始状态打开、分解她，进而进行两个或多个的组合。所以，每一次使用都是使用者在用身体探索半个坡屋顶空间的形式潜力。城市由此在每一次的使用中激发出与之相适应空间类型，此外，对半坡屋顶空间的无意或偶发的组合也能促进更具想象力的活动在其中发生。
As the specially designed basic units have specific forms and direction, we can combine them freely by any number of them. So the mission is accomplished by combining different units to hold diversified urban activities. It also enables users to explore the possibilities of combining the units with ease. The interaction between “Split” and the built environment is kind of a short-term reproduction of spatial relations. It provides an innovative procedural strategy of spacial upgrading, different from commonplace architecture design and urban planning approaches.
► 蛇口
Shekou
“开辟”对于正在改造更新中的蛇口工业区来说是一种“过程式”的空间。她可以直接的介入到蛇口城市空间的任何一个角落，参与任何一个既定或偶发的城市事件中，通过丰富的组合和互动的使用方式弥补城市中的空间缺失，以此来为进一步的城市更新提供缓冲。开辟与城市既有环境的互动是一种短期的空间关系再生产，这种过程式的临时策略是对持久建筑设计及城市规划的一种回应。
For the public space of Shekou under renewal, “Split” is more of a space in progress than a long-lasting facility. It may intervene in any places in the region and any events, planned or occasional. Through rich combination and interactive usage, the Kiosk could make up for the lack of certain spaces and serve as a cushion between current using and long-range planning.
